Morningstar: Part 2: Prologue

The following sections are previews of three concurrent sequels.  One from Bekah’s perspective, one from Tye’s perspective, and one from Anna’s perspective, each one occasionally looking at the same events through different personal and unique prisms or frames of reference.

          Prologue

Escaping all the commotion of the house, knowing that Sue was still recovering from shock, Jason, Amanda, Anna, and Tye, excused themselves for a brief moment and sought a moment of quiet solitude outside before their imminent departure and separation.  This is the first time the young couples have shared even the most basic privacy in many months.

Running his fingers through Amanda’s greasy matted hair while brushing it to one side, Jason leans over to gently press his lips against hers.  After a prolonged and tender kiss, he slowly caresses her cheek, breathing warm air against her cold skin, while softly moving his lips across her cheek to her left ear where he quietly whispers; “I’m sure looking forward to running my fingers through clean hair.”

At this, Amanda’s eyes sparkle ever so slightly, as she playfully slugs Jason in the stomach, then pulling his head back down so her lips are touching his left ear, she breathes ever so softly; “and I’m looking forward to fresh breath,” then with an even bigger smile; “and Mr.…… You stink so bad; you need to go home and take a hot shower.”

“I think I’ll just do that, Miss Coalier; but after this, it might have to be cold,” Jason adds with a chuckle.

Following the shortest pause and with an enormous look of relief, they both threw their arms around each other.

          “We made it!”

          “Yes, we did.”

Hearing more people coming out of the house Jason takes Amanda’s hand in his, gently kissing her once more time her lips and whispers; “how was that for a first kiss?”

“Not bad;” replied Amanda with a teasing grin.

          Not bad?”

“Well, I don’t really have anything to compare it with, do I?”

Smiling as they parted, holding hands until the distance no longer permitted their connection, “You just might be stuck with me Mr.”

“I hope so,” came a quiet gentle reply.

Walking the few steps to the van and waiting for Anna to separate herself from Tye, Jason watches Amanda getting into the back seat just after her parents unlock their car door.

After Jason walked up to the Van, it didn’t take long for Tye to lean over as Anna leaned towards him, turning her head ever so slightly for a tender parting kiss.  “I’ll see you tomorrow when we come over to fix the window. … Maybe you could give Amanda a call to see how things are at her house.  I can tell Jason’s worried he won’t be able to see her for a while;” suggested Tye as Anna begins to disentangle herself from him.

“Tell him not to worry, she’ll still be there no matter how long it takes,” then with a grin, “she’s a very patient woman.”

Seeing that Anna was about to walk away from the van, Jason opened the door and asked; “did Bekah yell something at us?”

Tye just shrugged his shoulders while Anna responded, “I didn’t hear anything.”

As soon as they arrived at the Teeples’ home, Beth, Jason, and Tye all took turns getting showers while Sarah prepared a place for Tye to sleep on a pullout couch in the family room and then some food for everyone.  Max had already made arrangements for Thomas and Mark to spend another night at their friend’s house and go directly to school from there.  The three returning travelers, completely exhausted from their ordeal, go immediately to bed while Max takes Mike home and helps with the few remaining farm chores on the old dairy.  Sarah waits for Max to return and they too go straight to bed exhausted from their emotional weekend.
