IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE AREA AND PLAN TO LOOK FOR WORK NOW OR IN THE FUTURE:
1. Volunteer. There are volunteer resource links below. Volunteering at least once a week will give you connections in the area who may be able to help you find work when you are ready. Volunteering gives back to the community. It will give you a local reference on your resume. Make sure you do a good job for them so it will be a good reference. If your accent is a little different from the local accent, it may help you to better understand others and may help others to better understand you.
2. If you do not speak French, do everything you can to learn French. There are also resources below to help you with French.
3. As much as you possibly can, learn a skill that is marketable locally. There are many things you can learn online at no cost to yourself. There are some things that have a cost. If you have to pay, make sure it is legitimate and will provide you with the required certification. (Do online review searches on the school or course.) There are links below to help you understand what are current high demand jobs in the area. Some high demand jobs may not be listed, so ask locals who you get to know what seems to be in demand.
4. When you begin to look for work, use as many resources as possible and apply for as much as you can. Do NOT apply for one or two or a few and then wait to see. Register with employment agencies and if possible, visit them in person.
5. Attend Job Fairs when possible.
6. Take a printed resume with you to job interviews. Read about job interviews (links below) and practice interviewing with someone.

Employment:
It may be impossible to personally go to every place you
apply but go to as many as you are able.
This may help you to stand out.
A lot of hiring is word of mouth (at least 50% in most parts of Canada and the US), when you talk with a
potential employer, ask if they know of anyone else who is hiring. Ask friends and neighbors if they know of
anyone who might be hiring. If you know of anyone hiring, please post in the comments below.
When you apply or interview for a job, do not take someone with you. Often employers might wonder if you need someone to come with you to apply for a job, will you be able to come and work on your own.
In the information below, you will also see links to do's and don'ts. Take a look at those as well. Learn from othes mistakes and knowledge.
Sometimes you can get a temporary or part time job that will lead to a better job or the same job as a permanent and/or full-time employee. This can often/especially be true of employment agencies. As much as possible, meet and get to know the people at the employment agency personally.
If you are not working, consider using some of your time to volunteer. This may give you good experience and connections in addition to helping others in need. There is a section on volunteering below. For those not from Canada, there is another huge bonus from volunteering. You MAY need a work reference for some jobs, and volunteer references can help.
If you are considering self-employment, verify that what you are thinking about doing is legal AND verify that it is legal for YOU to do it. Also, be very wary of scams. There are a lot of people out there who would be glad to take your money and promise you earnings for something that will rarely or even never become profitable.
Be willing to take a lower paying beginner job if you do not get the job you want quickly. It is often to get a better job when you are working and have a little longevity and good local work references.
When you go to apply for a job in person or go for an interview, dress one step above the job requirements. Look good but do not over dress. In some cases, you may be asked to go to work immediately. There will be a link below on how to dress. I've both interviewed for a job a number of times and interviewed people to work for me many times. Having people come to an interview, dressing below the requirements for the job is one of the best ways to be turned down (in the mind of the interviewer) quickly. Always be at least 15 minutes early for an interview, but not more than 30 minutes.
As you click on the links below, you will find many additional links. Some of the best links will be further down on the list.

Work from home jobs There are many legitimate work from home jobs. There are also many scams. Be wary of job offers that ask for money and be wary of online or work from home jobs that ask for your bank account number. If a bank account number is required for payment, provide an account number where you have the minimal amount in the account required to keep it open and only use this account to receive payment from this particular company. This could be a savings account associated with your checking account. You may also want to talk with your bank about how to best set this up to protect you from someone withdrawing money from your account.

Family History/Genealogy:
5 Benefits Of Knowing Your Family History
How much do you truly know about your family history? Besides the occasional school project that had you research your family tree, you may not have done an in-depth study.
Learning about your family history is important and can reveal many surprising things that you didn’t know. You can either do a genealogy search online or sit down with members of your family and listen to their stories.
No matter how you chose to gather the information, you’ll end up having a deeper appreciation for who you are and where you come from. Here are five life-changing benefits of knowing your family history.
1. It Gives You A Sense Of Identity
Nothing is more eye-opening than learning about who you are. Discovering more about your ancestors, celebrating family traditions, embracing your culture, and understanding where you came from can open your eyes to how beautiful and unique you are. It can also give your sense of self-worth and belonging a boost.
2. It Makes You More Resilient
Let’s face it, life is hard. But back in the day, life was even more so. More likely than not, your past family members probably faced terrible tragedies and heartache. They may have faced things that seem almost impossible to overcome. But they did overcome them. Learning about their stories and how they got through difficult times can give you the courage you need to keep going and make you more resilient when you’re facing challenges.

3. It Helps You Connect With Others
Learning about your family history can impact the way you connect with others because it allows you to connect with people in the past, present, and future. And forming connections with others is crucial to a fulfilling life.
4. It Makes You A Better Human
Your ancestors’ stories can shape you into a more grateful, happy, empathetic, and compassionate version of yourself. For example, you may discover that your great grandfather lived during the Great Depression and that he had to work hard to provide for his family, which may inspire you to work hard as well. Whatever stories are glistening in your treasury of family history, now is the time to unearth them.
Related: How Knowing Your Family History Can Save Your Life
5. It Helps You Make Good Health Choices
Have you been filling out a patient history form before seeing your healthcare provider and your mind went blank when it asked if cancer, high blood pressure, or diabetes ran in your family? Well, to avoid leaving those blank spaces in the future, learning about your ancestors can give you a lot of information on what health concerns run in your family. More importantly, it shows you what you are at risk for. Knowing this information can help you make good choices regarding your health and help you lead a healthy lifestyle.
It's never too late to learn about your family history.
